Camping

I think I am too old for Girl Scout camp! Our Camping for a Cause event took place Friday and Saturday at the Girl Scout Camp north of Richmond. We really had a good time....other than the lack of sleep! Although everyone else swore they slept like babies. I slept like a baby --- one with colic! Ugh! My friend Stephanie slept equally bad! Thin little mattresses on a short cot just didn't do it for me! Fortunately, the temps were warm so that was good. It was actually a bit warm when we went to sleep, but the temps dropped a bit.

When we got to the event (after accidentally driving all the way done someones tree-lined driveway up to their house), we were driven to our cabins on golf carts. I'm telling you, we were roughing it! We picked lucky cabin No. 13! Not too bad as far as camping, although we later learned we were in one of the worst cabins they had! Oh well!

We then enjoyed wine and cheese (again, roughing it) before dining on lasagna, salad, etc. from Olive Garden. And, then desserts....including smores, of course! We played a "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" game with great prizes. I won four tickets to a Washington Wizards game. There were fewer people than expected, so we were all winners! My friend Kristie was a big winner...a huge bowl of all the different Girl Scout cookies (including the new ones) and a bracelet worth $500!

The next morning we were up early, took a spin on the golf cart to check out the lake, etc. And we had a quick breakfast before heading to the beautiful Jefferson Hotel in downtown Richmond. We enjoyed facials, chair massages and manicures. We also had a few speakers and ate a great lunch! Ema and Gage came and picked me up. Ema was excited to see me, although she was equally excited to see Stephanie. Sigh! I crashed out for a while Saturday to catch up on some sleep!

It was a fun event and we raised $8,000 so more girls can enjoy the camp as well as Girl Scouts in general. The camp we went to was wonderful. A variety of sports fields, a dance studio, a beautiful lodge, equestrian facilities, a beautiful lake with canoes and wide-open fields. They keep the address of the camp discreet since it's a girls camp and they have a full-time park ranger who lives there year round as well as a cop that patrols all night long when they are campers.
