Trick or Treat!

It was a busy Halloween Day for Ema, the pink kitty cat. The day started at her school with a Harvest Walk. Since her school, VCU Child Development Center, is part of the VCU School of Education, the kids walked over to the the School of Ed. Different staff from the school as well as the Physical Plant guys gathered in the courtyard outside. Some of the VCU students even gathered to watch. Ema's class and the other toddler class were the first to head over. It didn't take long for the kids to figure out what was going on with the candy! Ema was gladly reaching out to each person. We did get several thank yous out of her...without prompting even! Ema enjoyed walking around the courtyard holding hands with her friend Zak (the giraffe). The kids ended up with a huge bag full of candy! But they weren't allowed to eat it until they came home to their parents (thanks for that one!).

For the evening, we went to a party with the vonOfenheim family. And we went trick or treating on Hanover Ave. It's well-known in Richmond to go to Hanover Ave. for trick or treating. Almost all of the houses are elaborately decorated and the people dress in costumes to hand out candy. One block of Hanover was completely blocked off. It's quite the site to see! There are hundreds and hundreds of kids out trick or treating. It gets crazy! Ema seemed to enjoy it all ... she saw one man dressed up with a clown nose and pointed at him and laughed (nice manners). Of course, she did the same to Ernest who had a crazy mask on! And she told Johnny, Ernest's partner who had the party," You're funny." Of course, he was dressed as "heavy weight Jesus" so it was a bit funny.

At one point after Ema received candy, I asked her, "Now what do you say?" She got a bit confused since we had been prompting her to say Trick or Treat, Thank you and Meow (since she was a cat). Her answer, which was supposed to be "thank you," of course came out as "Meow" instead!
